While no one can guarantee the results of a job interview, your chances of getting the job may increase if you can make a positive impression on the interviewer. Here are five tips on how you can interview with confidence.

1. Don’t worry about interview anxiety. It’s common to be nervous during an interview. Being anxious may even help raise your energy level, which could be a good thing.
2. Have good posture. Whether sitting or standing, make sure your posture shows self-confidence — sit or stand up straight. Practice in front of a mirror.
3. Give a firm handshake. Offer a firm handshake, but not one that’s bone crushing. This is a good thing to practice with friends or family.
4. Make solid eye contact. Good eye contact with the interviewer can be a sign of confidence.
5. Answer questions honestly. If you don’t have an answer to a question, don’t try to fake it. It’s better to say you don’t know or that you’d like to get back to the interviewer with an answer.

Preparing ahead of time may help improve your chances of landing the job you want.

Everyone has access to the same 24 hours in a day. Effective time management can be a reason why one person succeeds and another person fails.

While success can mean a lot of things to different people, it generally means accomplishing what you set out to do. Whether attending school, shopping or planning for a trip, there are a number of things you can do to make sure everything runs smoother, such as:

Creating a to-do list — Write down important deadlines and check them off when accomplished.

Tackling difficult projects when alert — It’s better to tackle the difficult projects when you’re feeling energetic.

Making time for the important things — Spend time with the family. Most importantly, spend time with yourself.

Saying no to time-wasting activities — You only have so many hours in a day to get things done.

Following through — If you plan to do something, follow through to completion.

Time is the one asset that millions of people have in common. A 24-hour day is the same length of time for everyone. Learning to manage your time wisely can help produce the best results in the long run. Good time-management skills make it a lot easier to prioritize and follow through with the right actions.

Businesses that often offer flexible or part-time schedules include:

• Restaurants (hosting, waiting, bussing)
• Retail (cashiers, stocking, call centers, seasonal jobs)
• Service companies (customer support)

These businesses often need workers during off-hours, such as evenings and weekends. Many of these jobs are entry-level, requiring little or no experience.

You can look for flexible jobs:

• In newspaper classified sections
• On Internet job sites like Monster.com and Craigslist
• By going directly to local businesses, especially restaurants and retail stores

One of the best ways to maximize your performance at school is to eat smart. A healthy diet can:

• Keep you alert for longer periods of time.
• Keep your mind sharp, attentive and able to better process information.
• Help prevent you from getting sick and missing classes.

The rules for eating smart are pretty simple:

• Plan for three meals per day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
• For breakfast, focus on grains (such as cereals) and proteins (such as eggs).
• Avoid high fat/high carb breakfast foods like doughnuts and pastries.
• Eat well-balanced lunches, again with a focus on protein.
• Vary your dinner menu. Include fish and chicken, as well as lots of fruits and vegetables.
• To keep your brain working throughout the day, snack on healthy items like nuts, yogurt and fruit.

Limit candy and other sugary snacks. Also limit sugary drinks. Focus on water and non-sweetened fruit drinks.

Make healthy nutrition a part of your own career and personal development plan. Your brain will thank you for it.

Designing a productive homework study space is simple. A comfortable and productive environment can help increase your chances of graduating and finding the job you want.

Designing a special place for homework and study time can make a big difference in how well you do in your program.

Staying focused is really about avoiding distractions like the television or phone calls. Get a small desk and find a comfortable chair and spot in your home. Make sure you have supplies at hand like pens, pencils, markers and paper. Let others in your home know how important study time is to you and the best hours for study. Complete homework during the same time each day to develop a sense of habit. And above all, thank everyone for their support every chance you get.

You’ve already made the important decision to attend school. The next step is making sure study time and homework assignments are completed in a comfortable and productive environment. This helps you do your best in school and it increases the chances of graduating and finding the job you want.

The good news is it tends to get easier when everyone understands how much your education means to you — and them.

People are supportive when they understand how your success can benefit everyone. When your life improves through education, their lives can improve because you’ll have more to offer. People are supportive when you tell them how much you appreciate their support, understanding and patience. It makes them want to help in whatever way they can.

People also become supportive when you let them know their dreams are just important as yours. They also tend to be a lot more supportive of your success because they feel you care about what’s important to them as well.

By showing how much you care for friends and family, and helping them understand their goals and dreams are just as important, the odds are they’ll be happy and willing to support your educational goals.

Hands-on training means you learn the tools of your trade in a work-like setting. For instance, if you’re in our Medical Assistant program, you’ll actually draw blood, you’ll take people’s blood pressure, and you’ll practice CPR.

If you’re taking Massage Therapy, you’ll really be hands-on as you practice the art of massage on fellow students -– and others will practice on you, all guided by our experienced instructors.

We want to make sure that when you graduate, you haven’t just read about what you’ll be doing; instead, you’ve actually practiced and perfected your skills in the classroom. That’s what makes Everest different from any other school experience, and why we have employer partners who regularly hire Everest graduates.
